Word verification is a royal pain. And ever since Blogger Beta turned into Blogger New and Improved, I've had the dickens of a time posting comments on other blogs. I usually have to word verify at least twice. Sometimes three, four, or even five times. These can't all be due to typos or misreadings.
For that reason, I long ago turned off word verification on my blog. I have not so far been invaded by blog burglars, probably because my little hang-out here is like the tiny cottage at the end of the twisty path through the deep dark woods in the hidden valley of the secret mountains at the ends of the earth. The only visitors I get are the ones who know how to follow the breadcrumb trail.
So, to my blogging colleagues who are penning posts from similarly remote locales and whose regular visitors could all fit neatly inside a coach and six--
please consider the comfort and convenience of your devoted readers who occasionally stop in for tea and gingerbread, and do away with the secret handshake.
You will NOT turn into a pumpkin, I promise.

Word verification

Hiya Beth. I clicked over here from EE's blog because I like your comments and thought I'd check your place in the blog world. I see you live in Greensboro, NC. I lived there for three years, back in the late 90's. Lived off of Wendover Blvd.
Anyway, just thought I'd say hi. I hope all is well in Carolina. Peace.
Thanks for stopping by. :) Greensboro is a bustling place these days. It's growing a lot. The old Burlington Industries office building on Friendly was demolished a year or so ago and now there's a new shopping center and several restaurants on the premises.
I'll give it a whirl. I initially turned it on after a string of annoying and senseless spammers did manage to find my own remote little corner of cyberspace, but hopefully they've all gone away now... Well, a girl can dream. *g*
Anyway, hopefully I won't get any more spam and need to turn it back on.
Well, if I ever have that problem, I'll have to start demanding a password, I guess, but--so far--it hasn't been an issue.
And speaking of visiting, I'll stop by your blog later day today and see how you're getting on. :) I've been sort of holed up in my own little fortress lately and haven't been getting out much.
Hi Beth,
In which part of the state is Greensboro located. We spend a lot of time at Beech Mountain, right next to Grandfather Mountain. Do you ever make it to the games?
Carol,
Greensboro is right about the middle of the state, east-west, and roughly 30-40 miles south of the Virginia border.
I've never attended the Games, and I can't really tell you why. I should remedy that. Wouldn't it be fun to get them to invite Diana as a special guest? Though I suppose we shouldn't distract her from her writing...
Beth,
That would be fun. Come now, she doesn't have to spend every minute writing. Hmm, how can we make this happen? LOL.
Hmmm. I could ask her how she'd feel about it, but I bet I know what she'll say. She's trying to cut back on travel as much as possible, since she's got a book tour coming up in September, I think it is, for the new Lord John book. They're taking her to Alaska. [g]
Oh, well. Maybe next year.
Beth,
I've been wanting to go to those games. I figure they are not too far away from the lake house. It's in July isn't it. I need to check.
Rhonddalyn
Rhonddalyn and Carol,
July 12-15. Wanna meet there?
Beth,
That would be great, but I can't get off work for it this year. Wanna plan for next year?
Carol,
Yeah, let's do that!
Hey, while searching for widgets for my blog, I stumbled upon www.widgetmate.com and wow! I found what I wanted. A cool news widget. My blog is now showing latest news with title, description and images. Took just few minutes to add. Awesome!
I don't mind "anonymous" comments (that is, comments from non-Blogger users), but please sign your name at the bottom.
Alas, the spammers are still with us. I used to have word verification off at my blog, but it was too much of a hassle separating out the spam from the legitimate comments.
But I understand why you wouldn't like it. It is a pain in the butt.
beth,
I finally had to follow the breadcrumb trail after seeing so many of your excellent comments over at EE.
I sympathize with the word verification issue (now I just don't enter it the first time because it never works), but I had too many spammers last year and had to turn it on at my place. Sigh.
pjd, thanks for dropping in. I confess, I don't know what on earth I've been saying on EE that's so unusual it inspires folks to come hunt me down [g], but I appreciate the compliment.
This blog has so far been spam free, but no doubt my ivory tower days are numbered and I will have to one day lower the purtcullis and dig a moat. Messy work, that.
What you're saying isn't unusual per se but rather just makes a lot of sense in a concise manner. And more often than not it's what I was going to say myself.
Ah. Great minds and all that...
:)
YOu have a point. I turned on the veri because after less than a week I got spam blogs. But it is such a pain entering the correct verification string five times over, I'll give it a second try. Just for you. :)
Oooh, thanks. I'm honored. :) And maybe the spammers have moved on.
